About the position The Allied Health Intermediate Supervisor at Michigan Medicine is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a clinical laboratory, ensuring high-quality testing and compliance with regulatory standards. This role includes administrative supervision of laboratory personnel, coordination of training and competency evaluations, and active participation in laboratory management and policy development. The supervisor will also maintain expertise in laboratory techniques and instrumentation to support staff and ensure optimal workflow. Responsibilities • Provide day-to-day administrative supervision of qualified personnel performing testing and reporting high complexity test results. • Schedule employees to ensure adequate staffing across all areas of the laboratory. • Supervise and coordinate daily operational lab activities, providing ongoing support to staff. • Monitor and adjust workflow to maximize productivity and quality in the laboratory. • Serve as a resource for technical and procedural issues from staff and external institutions. • Implement new and revised policies and procedures within the laboratory framework. • Ensure compliance with quality control, quality assurance, and regulatory standards. • Coordinate and participate in the laboratory Quality Assurance Program. • Provide orientation and training to laboratory personnel, ensuring competency in testing procedures. • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to employees, assisting in their professional development. Requirements • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related biological science. • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist. • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting. • Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, sitting, and hand pipetting for extended periods. • Capability to lift up to 25 lbs. Nice-to-haves • Demonstrated management experience in a CLIA Clinical Lab setting. • Experience with therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology analysis methodologies such as GC, HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and LC-MS/MS. • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. • Effective written and oral communication skills. • Ability to teach and train junior laboratory personnel.
