Overview Flo Labs R&D is seeking an Animal Science and Veterinary Research Intern to contribute to groundbreaking projects that merge veterinary science, animal behavior studies, and AI-driven technologies. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team working to enhance animal health, communication, and enrichment through innovative research and technological applications. This internship offers a unique opportunity to participate in animal cognition studies, wellness wearables, and robotic enrichment systems that support both pets and broader veterinary science initiatives. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, and veterinarians to bridge the gap between animal welfare and intelligent systems. Additionally, you will engage in continuous research and evaluation of emerging AI tools to enhance productivity, staying abreast of the latest technological advancements. This proactive approach ensures our team remains at the forefront of innovation, integrating cutting-edge solutions into our workflows. Key Responsibilities • Support ongoing animal communication research focused on decoding and interpreting vocalization patterns to better understand emotional and behavioral responses. • Contribute to the development of wearable devices for monitoring pet health metrics, including heart rate, activity levels, and sleep cycles. • Assist with EEG-based studies in animal cognition, analyzing brainwave data to explore how animals perceive and react to environmental stimuli. • Participate in research and testing for robotic companions such as RoboDog and RoboCat, designed for animal enrichment and emotional wellness. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate veterinary insights into projects like CAIPO, an AI-driven health monitoring platform for both humans and animals. • Support data collection, documentation, and reporting related to animal behavior and wellness outcomes. • Conduct literature reviews and help prepare research summaries for internal and external dissemination. Qualifications and Skills • Background or current studies in veterinary medicine, animal science, or related fields. • Familiarity with animal behavior, cognition, or wellness research methodologies. • Experience with veterinary diagnostic tools, data collection, or animal tracking technologies is a plus. • Exposure to EEG systems, wearables, or biosensor analysis is a plus. • Passion for animal welfare, behavioral research, and technology-assisted care. • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams across scientific and engineering domains. Why Join Us • Fully remote & flexible schedule – work from anywhere, full-time (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time (minimum 8–10 hours/week). • Hands-on, impactful work – engage with real projects in veterinary innovation, wearable health tracking, and animal cognition research. • Career-advancing experience – gain valuable, practical skills in animal research, behavioral science, and applied AI that will strengthen your resume and future career path. • Mentorship & learning – receive guidance from experienced professionals and collaborate across teams integrating AI, robotics, and veterinary science.
