Your Mission As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will be a cornerstone of our lean, high-impact engineering team. You will tackle our most complex technical challenges, architect systems that scale to support millions of users, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our core products. This is a senior individual contributor role with immense scope and influence, offering the chance to drive technical strategy and mentor a growing team. What You'll Do: Architect for Scale: Design, build, and scale our backend systems and data processing pipelines to efficiently handle billions of dollars in transaction volume and millions of users. Drive Technical Excellence: Lead critical, cross-functional projects from conception to launch, ensuring long-term system reliability, performance, and maintainability. Solve Complex Data Challenges: Optimize our large-scale data ingestion and computation platforms, dealing with the unique complexities of blockchain data from hundreds of integrations. Mentor and Influence: Elevate the entire engineering team by providing technical leadership, mentoring senior engineers, and establishing best practices. Collaborate for Impact: Work closely with Product, Design, and other teams to align technical execution with ambitious business objectives that directly impact our users. What We Look For: 8+ years of backend engineering experience with a proven track record of technical leadership. Exceptional computer science fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and system design. Deep, hands-on expertise with backend technologies, including databases, orchestrators, messaging systems, and API design. Proficiency in Python and experience building and scaling complex, data-intensive applications. A passion for mentoring engineers and driving high-impact engineering initiatives. A comfort with ambiguity and a strong desire to thrive in an early-stage, high-growth startup environment. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Bonus: Experience in the cryptocurrency, fintech, or financial services sectors. Sample Projects You Might Tackle: Scaling our real-time data ingestion platform to seamlessly process millions of transactions daily from new blockchains and exchanges. Architecting a smart trade insights engine that analyzes transaction history, tax implications, and market data to provide users with actionable recommendations. Building systems to dynamically integrate the latest global tax regulations, ensuring our tax reporting remains accurate and compliant for users worldwide. Tech Stack: Backend: Python, Flask, GraphQL, Postgres, BigTable, Redis, RQ Infrastructure: GCP, Terraform, Docker, Pub/Sub, Datadog, PagerDuty (You don't need to know all of these, but you must be willing to learn!)
