Job title: Lead Analyst - Poxy Governance - Remote Company: BNY Mellon Job description: Job Description: Proxy Governance - Lead Analyst Overall Team Function • The Investment Proxy Research team is responsible for creating proxy research, benchmarking, voting execution, compliance, audit and reporting functions for over 12K issuers annually. The team supporting several passive active, and brokerage investment management firms who have proxy voting authority over their clients’ holdings. The team establishes appropriate proxy voting policies, procedures, and guidelines relative to regulations, benchmarking and industry best practices. • BNY Mellon’s Proxy Voting and Governance team provides a flexible and progressive work environment. He/She will join a well-established, tight-knit, IM Proxy Voting and Governance team, who are looking to hire a candidate who they can develop, mentor and train into a successful, and valued member of BNY Mellon’s IM Governance Team. The team will also offer and provide cross-training throughout to further expand their skill set and knowledge base Main Responsibilities: • Analyze AGM agendas and related materials in order to ensure voting that is consistent with BNYM Proxy Voting Policy and Guidelines: Conduct research on compensation, ESG topics and related matters. Support proxy voting processes (research, analysis, monitoring, execution, reporting, auditing etc.) • Research and contribute to the annual refreshment of policies and guidelines • Benchmark and monitor corporate governance standards, regulatory developments, and best practices • Identify and escalate relevant, time sensitive corporate governance topics in voting proposals • Communicate with the relevant stakeholders in the business • Collaborate with Portfolio Managers • Assist with presentation preparation and documentation management • Identify and alert the team of ESG trends, news, and significant developments • Engage with management and board members of investee companies to discuss BNY Mellon voting, ongoing governance and compensation practices, and environmental, social or governance issues identified through research and qualitative screening Desired background and qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. • 1-2 years of total work experience preferred. • Experience in corporate governance and/or proxy voting preferred. • Knowledge of capital markets, asset management and ESG practices. • Proficiency in MS-Office. • Highly motivated, confident, self-sufficient and ability to learn quickly. • Keen interest in taking on new challenges. • Superior communication skills and detail oriented. • Passionate about responsible investing/stewardship and having a positive impact. • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a team. #LI-Hybrid BNY Mellon is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
