Location: St. Louis Direct message the job poster from John Ward Economics We are seeking a full-time economist to join the John Ward Economics team. We are an economic consulting firm based in Saint Charles, Missouri, specializing in forensic economics. In addition to litigation consulting, we publish statistical products for other forensic economists through Expectancy Data, including earnings tables, work-life expectancy data, and the Dollar Value of a Day methodology for valuing household services. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of intellectual curiosity, self-motivated learning, and practical experience in applying economic models and statistical analysis. This role demands a professional who is adept at applying sound economic concepts to individual cases (typically estimating earnings and household productivity) and effectively communicating the methods to a non-specialist audience, including in court settings. Candidate Requirements • Education & Experience: Candidates must hold an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in economics or a related field. Experience in generating applied economic analysis and communicating complex economic ideas to laypeople is necessary. • Skills: Ideal candidates possess a passion for studying economics and the clarity to explain complicated concepts to the public. Experience in labor economics and familiarity with statistical software, such as R, is preferred. Direct experience in forensic economics is preferred but not required. • Location: The candidate must be willing to move to the Saint Louis Metro area for on-site work or the Kansas City Metro area for remote work. Responsibilities & Expectations • Team Collaboration: We expect the candidate to work with a team of economists and support staff to develop models that provide reliable estimates of economic damages. • Core Duties: Responsibilities include estimating economic damages for specific cases, writing reports to communicate those findings, and developing new techniques for the team. • Research & Publication: We expect the candidate to contribute to forensic economic literature through peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Forensic Economics and the Journal of Legal Economics. There are also opportunities to contribute to Expectancy Data's annual statistical publications. • Professional Community: We encourage and support active participation in forensic economics organizations, including the National Association of Forensic Economics and regional associations. • Testifying: While there is potential for the candidate to become a testifying economist, it is not a requirement. Work Environment & Compensation • Schedule: After the initial training period and having shown an ability to complete the necessary duties, the position may allow for some flexibility with opportunities to work partially from home. However, due to the nature of the industry, meeting specific deadlines and occasional travel are essential. • Compensation: The salary ranges from $125,000 to $165,000, depending on experience. Annual bonuses have ranged from $5,000 to $25,000 for similar positions over the last five years. • Benefits: Health, dental, vision, and life insurance are entirely paid by JWE, with a subsidy for dependents. 401(k) with an employer year-end contribution. Vacation time. We are looking for a candidate who not only meets the technical and professional requirements but also brings a passion for economics and a dedication to advancing the field of forensic economics.
