Payroll Specialist – Remote Contract

Job Summary Paychex, a leading provider of payroll and human capital management solutions, is seeking a skilled Payroll Specialist for a remote contract position. This role involves managing end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payroll procedures, tax regulations, and client service excellence. You will work remotely with a dynamic team dedicated to delivering efficient, compliant, and customer-focused payroll services. Key Responsibilities • Process weekly, biweekly, and monthly payrolls for assigned clients accurately and on time. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. • Calculate employee wages, deductions, benefits, bonuses, and commissions as per policy. • Maintain and update employee payroll records in accordance with company policies. • Review and verify timesheets, pay adjustments, and expense reimbursements. • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and respond to related queries. • Handle client inquiries and resolve payroll discrepancies efficiently. • Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and Compliance teams for seamless payroll operations. • Generate reports and assist management in audits or internal reviews. • Stay updated on legislative changes affecting payroll practices. Required Skills and Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist, Payroll Administrator, or similar role. • Strong knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex Flex, Workday, or similar platforms). • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications. • Excellent understanding of tax laws, deductions, and compliance requirements. • High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality. • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in payroll processing or related functions. • Experience working with multi-state payroll or large-scale payroll systems is highly preferred. • Prior experience in a client-facing or consulting payroll environment is an advantage. Working Hours • Flexible remote work schedule with standard business hours (Monday to Friday). • Must be available to meet critical payroll deadlines and occasional client meetings. • Contract-based position with potential for extension based on performance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance frameworks. • Ability to manage large data volumes while maintaining precision. • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities. • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision. • Adaptability to changing client needs and industry updates. • Customer-centric mindset with a focus on service excellence.
