Senior AI Engineer (Remote)

Remote, USA Full-time
Our client, a fast-growing applied AI consulting and enablement firm helping small and mid-sized businesses integrate Generative AI and workflow automation, is seeking a Head of Technology to lead technical strategy, delivery, and engineering operations. This is a hands-on “player-coach” role—ideal for a strong technical lead ready to step into executive-level ownership. You’ll architect, code, and ship automation systems while mentoring a distributed team and guiding clients through modern AI-driven workflow transformation. Key Responsibilities • Design and implement AI-driven automations using tools such as n8n, connecting CRMs, ERPs, and other business systems. • Integrate LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic) into production workflows using structured outputs, tool calling, and human-in-the-loop approvals. • Manage and mentor a distributed engineering team across time zones; run code reviews, establish delivery standards, and ensure predictable outcomes. • Architect secure, scalable systems aligned with client data protection and compliance standards. • Implement SLIs/SLOs, monitoring, and incident management for reliability and transparency. • Create reusable templates, libraries, and best practices to improve speed and consistency across projects. • Collaborate with executives and clients to explain technical outcomes clearly—translating engineering success into business impact. Qualifications • 5–8+ years of software development experience, with recent hands-on coding in TypeScript, Node.js, or Python. • 2+ years leading or managing engineers (including offshore or distributed teams). • Experience building multi-step automations (n8n, Zapier, or custom) with strong error handling and idempotency. • Familiarity with LLM integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic, Claude, or similar) using APIs and structured outputs. • Strong knowledge of REST/GraphQL APIs, JSON, SQL/Postgres, Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines. • Proven track record in reliability engineering, including monitoring, alerts, and incident response. Preferred Experience • Azure experience (Functions, Key Vault, Queues) or similar cloud platforms. • Exposure to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, or MCP connectors. • Familiarity with security best practices, auditability, and privacy compliance for client data. • Excitement for Generative AI tools (Claude, CoPilot, Cursor, Codex) to enhance development productivity. Ideal Candidate You’re a builder and leader—a technologist who still enjoys writing code, but also thrives on mentoring engineers and shaping technical direction. You’re excited by the promise of applied AI, workflow automation, and measurable business outcomes, not just cutting-edge models. Equal Employment Opportunity Kinect is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
