We are now seeking a dedicated and passionate Tutor/Mentor to join our team in Ogden, UT, to support students in the GEAR UP & AVID programs. About the Role The Tutor/Mentor will play a vital role in guiding junior high and high school students within the Ogden City school district towards academic success. This position requires a strong foundation in various subjects, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently. As a Tutor/Mentor, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on students' lives, helping them develop essential skills, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals. Key Responsibilities Provide tutoring services to students in the GEAR UP & AVID programs, focusing on modeling learning techniques to achieve academic success. Offer basic college awareness mentoring, assisting students in understanding the college application process and exploring higher education opportunities. Help students develop organizational skills, time management strategies, and study habits to enhance their academic performance. Work with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles, adapting your approach to meet their individual needs. Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with students, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment. Respond to feedback and continuously improve your tutoring strategies to meet the evolving needs of students. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must possess: A high school diploma or equivalent. Multidisciplinary subject expertise, with advanced math and science knowledge being a plus. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents. Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. The ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and be self-motivated. Maturity and the ability to establish appropriate boundaries with students. A willingness to learn and adapt to new teaching methods and technologies. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications will be considered advantageous: Experience working with junior high or high school students in an academic setting. Previous experience providing tutoring services, either privately or through an organization. Familiarity with a wide range of subjects, including math, science, and English. Strong listening and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
