Position Overview The Writing Advisor plays a central role in Premed Catalyst’s mission to help premeds get into medical school. Premeds frequently do not see themselves as great writers, however they are motivated and intelligent. This position is designed for a sharp, empathetic writing professional who can guide students through the rigorous demands of medical school admissions. You’ll serve as the writing advisor and editor, helping students write authentically and compellingly. Responsibilities: Essay Review & Editing • Provide detailed feedback and developmental editing on the full application: personal statements, secondaries, activity descriptions, update letters, and other application components. • Coach students through multiple writing stages, from brainstorming to polishing, ensuring clarity, voice, and narrative cohesion. • Maintain high standards for structure, coherence, length management, and persuasive storytelling. • Ensure that every student submission meets internal standards and reflects best practices in tone, form, and content. • Flag systemic student writing issues and propose updates to address them. Qualifications: Required • Loves writing. • 2–5+ years of experience in writing instruction, editing, tutoring, or advising. • Understanding of college or graduate-level admissions writing norms. • Strong organizational skills managing large volumes of student work. Preferred • MFA in writing or journalism background. • Experience with medical school applications. • Familiarity with educational technology, content design, or curriculum frameworks.
